Toronto Tourism Tendencies: Metro Toronto Convention Centre

While not a sporting venue, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre does have a lot in common with both The Rogers Centre as well as The Air Canada Centre.  While the MTCC predates both of those buildings, it was never used as a venue for sports because it is a building that is not suited to the task.  No, what usually happens at the MTCC is that the building is booked for different events.  Over the course of the year, a wine-tasting extravaganza, a series of booths advertising different choices for universities and even a number of sports related exhibits might make their way into the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and it is this diversity of events occurring at the building that makes it one of Toronto’s Tourism Tendencies.

The Metro Toronto Convention Centre can perhaps best be described as a gateway attraction.  In other words, people that visit the centre do not go there because they want to see the Metro Toronto Convention Centre up close and personal, but rather they go there in order to get at an event that is taking place inside.  The convention centre has dozens of events occurring within its walls each year and many of these events are indeed attended by people that fly in from out of town and then decide to stay as tourists when they get here.  Alternatively, tourists might hear of an event taking place there that they are interested in and visit the place to see what the event is all about.

Yes, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre is one of Toronto’s big pull factors and like The Rogers Centre and The Air Canada Centre it is very easily accessible through the city’s public transportation system.
