Toronto Tourism Tendencies: The Rogers Centre

The Rogers Centre is a place that many people that visited Toronto a few years back will know by a different name. The Rogers Centre used to be the SkyDome when it was publicly owned by the city, but when Rogers took over operations of both the Toronto Blue Jays and the SkyDome in which they played, they changed the name to The Rogers Centre. The pathway leading to the Dome still has the word SkyDome on it, so if you are traveling there through public transit, don’t worry! The SkyDome and The Rogers Centre are the same building.
The Rogers Centre is not a place that people would visit as a typical tourist attraction, unless they were interested in taking in a sporting event. Two major sports teams play at The Rogers Centre; the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball and the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. Between these two teams there are about 50 different games happening at The Rogers Centre each year, although during the off-season the venue is rented out for concerts, sports matches from other cities (and even countries!) and various other events such as the Auto Show that happen here annually.
So, like I said, it is not a venue that you would likely have on your list if you came to Toronto with the purpose of seeing as much of the city as possible. But if you come to Toronto as a sports fan (or as a tourist that happens to be a sports fan) or a person looking to attend a specific event that is hosted there, then The Rogers Centre would definitely be on your list of sights to see. In any case, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions around, so it is definitely deserving of a place on the list of Toronto Tourism Tendencies.
