Toronto Tourism Tendencies: The University of Toronto
The picture shown above is of a courtyard in Hart House, one of the major buildings located on the campus of the University of Toronto (the university I currently attend). While there might be a bit of bias in my including the University of Toronto in a list of major Toronto tourist attractions, I would just like to point out that whenever I go to another city, if there happens to be a major university located within that city I usually make it a point to visit the university. The University of Toronto is most definitely a major international university and considering I see tourists on campus all the time, I think there’s a bit more than just my own bias at work here!
In any case, the University of Toronto is one of the largest universities in North America, with a downtown student body estimated at about 53,000. If you include the populations from the two other campuses in Mississauga and Scarborough that number leaps to over 60,000 and if you include faculty, staff and graduate students then the number is most definitely over 100,000. The University of Toronto is noted for having a decent all around appeal in terms of quality of education in all of its subjects and this is what tends to keep students applying to it as their first or second choice in droves every single year.
A lot of the architecture on campus is quite beautiful as well, with many of the buildings at the university being well over a century old. I’ll do a more in-depth series on the University of Toronto at some later point as this is just a brief precis of the university, but it is worth knowing that the architecture of some of the older buildings is quite breathtaking. The university is easily accessible by public transportation, has regular tours going on and would make a great addition to any trip to the City of Toronto.
