Here’s what some of the major news sources in Toronto had to say about the Earth Hour event that took place last night:
The Toronto Star: City Exceeds Goal for Power Savings
CTV: Thousands Celebrate Earth Hour Downtown
CBC: Canadians go dark with world for Earth Hour
City TV: Toronto Comes out of the dark for Earth Hour
From my personal vantage point in Scarborough (quite a far distance away from the downtown core of the city), it was actually kinda cool seeing all my neighbour’s houses without any lights on. …read more

Earth Hour in Toronto
Photo Credit: Wikimedia Commons, Public Domain
Well, if you’re looking for something environmental to do in the City of Toronto today, be sure to note that from 8PM to 9PM the city will be participating in an initiative known as Earth Hour. Created by a conglomerate of different groups, Earth Hour is an event that challenges everyone to turn off all of their lighting during that one hour of the day.
Torontonians will be celebrating Earth Hour by doing just that in homes and offices around the city and even if you don’t live in the City of Toronto you can participate …read more
Brrrr…it’s Cold!
And just to end things off today, here’s some footage taken by someone in a plane over the city to illustrate the snow-covered regions of Toronto. This is actually a pretty mild covering in comparison to what was on the ground during the high point of winter, but it serves as a reminder of how cold it can get here in Toronto. We’re probably out of winter now since the snow’s melting all over the place and it hasn’t snowed significantly for at least a couple of weeks.

Another Toronto Protest
While not exactly the protest capital of the world, Toronto does see its fair share of protests from time to time. With the Olympics fast approaching, the Free Tibet movement in Toronto has become far more vocal than they normally are and one result of that is a protest that took place on the 23rd of March in downtown Toronto. Here is some footage from that event. This is just one of many movements that protests in the streets of Toronto regularly. If I can find footage from some others, I’ll be sure to post them …read more

Blue Jays Roll in a New Season
And as proof of my earlier statement that sports are never dead in Toronto, the Blue Jays have already started advertising for the upcoming season of baseball. Blue Jays advertisements are big things in Toronto, since they’re usually pretty creative in nature. Here are the first three for this season, have a look and judge for yourself!

An Ingenius Way to Make Money
Based on the mask the guy’s wearing I tend to think this was part of a protest that happened in the city a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve seen people doing this and other things (like playing instruments) to busk at Yonge and Dundas, one of Toronto’s busiest intersections. Either way, check it out!

Season’s End for the Maple Leafs
Well, for no apparent reason, I have decided to declare today video day! First up on the agenda is a tribute video that someone made on YouTube for the Maple Leafs, Toronto’s NHL franchise. They’re not going to be making the playoffs this year (again) and this video was made as a tribute to the season they had this year. If you’re a hockey fan, you might appreciate it. If you’re not, humour me . And if you’re a sports tourist traveling to Toronto, do not fear! With the baseball season starting up …read more

The PATH: Your Key to Downtown Toronto
Photo Credit: Toronto PATH (underground) by fowlheadon Flickr, displayed under the CC-ANNDW 2.0 License
There are many different ways to get around the city in Toronto and surprisingly enough considering its size one way that you can traverse downtown Toronto is through something called the path. Now, I’ve been to many of the other cities in North America and while many of them have great public transportation, I have come across few that combine easy walking directions and high quality public transportation to allow people to get around in the way that Toronto does.
The PATH is 27 km long and it …read more
