Earth Hour Aftermath

Here’s what some of the major news sources in Toronto had to say about the Earth Hour event that took place last night:
The Toronto Star: City Exceeds Goal for Power Savings
CTV: Thousands Celebrate Earth Hour Downtown
CBC: Canadians go dark with world for Earth Hour
City TV: Toronto Comes out of the dark for Earth Hour
From my personal vantage point in Scarborough (quite a far distance away from the downtown core of the city), it was actually kinda cool seeing all my neighbour’s houses without any lights on. However, the street lights remained on in my neighbourhood, so the overall effect was really not that significant since most of the lighting at night comes from those very same street lights. I can understand the city not wanting to turn off the lights in the less populated area for safety reasons however, so I can see why they did what they did.
Also, for the people that did this, in the future I would suggest picking a date and time for Earth Hour that doesn’t involve a Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens game going on at the same time that people are supposed to be turning off their televisions. You’re really not helping yourself by doing that!
