The Human Rights Watch Film Festival is perhaps one of Toronto’s best kept secrets.  Whether human rights issues are important to you or you are just interested in learning about the topic, there is a lot that you can do and see at the Film Festival downtown.  It is an eye-opening educational experience to be sure and it is also something that can help to enrich a trip a great deal.  That’s why it’s being discussed here on The Toronto Traveler.

Event

I unfortunately didn’t have time to research this one as much as normal because of a looming assignment, but here is a short blurb on the Human Rights Watch organization courtesy of the City of Toronto website:

Human Rights Watch is one of the world’s largest research and advocacy organizations. It conducts fact-finding investigations into human rights abuses in more than seventy countries around the world and publishes those findings in hundreds of reports each year. By generating press through reporting and advocacy, Human Rights Watch seeks to shame abusive governments, change policies and practices, and inform the public about important human rights issues.

I’ve never done any work with or for this group, but I have heard of them before and seen flyers for them around my university.  They sound like an interesting group and one that’s worth spending an afternoon looking into.  So feel free to head on down to the Bader Theatre (it is impossible to miss if you follow the map provided) and take in an event.
