Philosopher’s Walk: A Great Walk in Toronto

Philosopher’s Walk: A Great Walk in Toronto

One of the things I haven’t talked that much about on The Toronto Traveler is the outdoors in Toronto.  Most of the things I mention are either places you can visit or things you can do inside one of the many buildings located in the city, but I have yet to discuss something that you can do outside if you’re just looking for some time to kill or want to get some fresh air.  Well, there are many great places that you can walk in Toronto, but one that should definitely get first mention because of its close proximity to …read more

Between Memory and History at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art

Between Memory and History at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art

Toronto is a city with lots of fantastic artwork attached to it.  Sometimes, as in the case of the above photo, the artwork manifests itself on one of the walls of the city or some other such public place.  However, in most cases, to see great Canadian art you have to head to one of the many artistic venues in the city such as the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art, which from now on will also occupy a place on The Toronto Traveler’s blogroll.
The MOCCA as it’s known for short is exactly what the name implies and between May 2, …read more

Who Toronto is Good For

Who Toronto is Good For

The other day I was reading some newspaper articles regarding some of the news that had recently taken place within the city of Toronto and through unrelated tangents (just cuz my mind works like that), I came to the realization that Toronto really does have a lot to offer almost any group or demographic that wants to visit.  To give you an idea of exactly what I mean, here are some different groups of people and what I personally feel they could get out of a trip to Toronto.

As You Like It in Toronto

As You Like It in Toronto

As You Like It is one of Shakespeare’s more famous plays and a comedy, believed to have been written by the great playwright sometime between 1599 and 1600.  It has been adapted for radio, film and for musical productions as well and the famous Shakespearean line “All the world’s a stage” is from this very play.

Well, if you’re going to be in Toronto sometime during the next few days, you’ll have a chance to catch a performance of As You Like It April 16th-19th as the ending of a production that started in February looms.

One of the things that continue to make Toronto an excellent place to visit is the city’s excellent musical tradition.  There are literally dozens of different musical groups that perform around the city all the time and while I don’t have the time to cover all of them here on The Toronto Traveler, I do try to get to the ones that I think will be of particular interest to you the readers.  This one is the Windermere String Quartet which happens to be just one of the many different smaller musical groups …read more

Henna decoration is big in Toronto, perhaps due to the large number of naturalized South Asian citizens that we have living here.  Henna decoration is a big part of the culture in countries like India and it’s ended up making its way into the Toronto culture as well, with Henna tattoos and paintings featuring largely in a number of different places as you walk around the city.  With more interest in this style of artistic expression, the Textile Museum of Canada has decided to help those interested learn how to get in the know …read more

In honour of this month’s Travel & Culture Theme Day, I thought I’d talk about a park in Toronto that I’ve been to many times.  Thomson Park is one of the premier parks in the city and since it also happens to be walking distance from my house, that works out pretty well for me!  I’ve travelled around most of the continent and I’ve rarely seen a combination of natural beauty and community spirit as good as the one that Thomson Park has going.
