Touring the City on the TTC – Route 506

Touring the City on the TTC – Route 506

The City of Toronto is a very diverse place and even when you are not at one of the major tourist attractions, you have the chance to see something spectacular.  If you’re interested in a way to tour the city as us locals see it, then I’ve come with a way that you might be able to do that for a very reasonable price.
I call it touring the city on the TTC.  All you have to do is get on a bus or streetcar route that goes by a number of places that you want to see and then …read more

Happy Victoria Day from The Toronto Traveler

Happy Victoria Day from The Toronto Traveler

Okay, so I’m a little bit behind the ball here since Victoria Day started about 19 hours ago (my time) and ends in about 5 hours, but I still felt it important to convey best wishes on a holiday that is important to Canadians, although not necessarily celebrated in earnest by any other country in the world.  While there are other countries such as Scotland that do celebrate Victoria Day in some areas, all of Canada celebrates it and that makes it an important topic for The Toronto Traveler.
Speaking Victoria Day like a Torontonian
While Victoria Day is most definitely …read more

University of Toronto Walking Tour – Sacred Spaces & Sacred Circles

University of Toronto Walking Tour – Sacred Spaces & Sacred Circles

Doors Open Toronto is a very important yearly event in the city’s presentation to the rest of the world.  Because of that, many of the other major parts of the city hold events that are affiliated with Doors Open Toronto but are also individual events that are organized separate from the central effort.  The University of Toronto is one such organization and they have stepped in line with 2008’s theme of Sacred Spaces, Sacred Circles through organization of a walking tour of the campus’ sacred spaces.
The tour starts at the Southwest end of the campus at the intersection of Spadina …read more

The Glittering Reflection of Downtown Toronto

The Glittering Reflection of Downtown Toronto

The City of Toronto has a fantastic looking skyline that lends itself well to photography in almost any circumstance.  When the night is just right however, the glittering of downtown Toronto can be photographed reflecting off the water in order to create a truly wondrous sight like the one in the picture above.
One of my favourite activities is to go to one of the many places in Toronto where the full skyline can be viewed and just sit and enjoy the view.  It’s a very relaxing thing to do and one that I recommend any traveler to the city …read more

Pillow Fight Toronto 2008 is Just Around the Corner

Who says Toronto isn’t a city where you can kick back and just have some extremely silly fun?  I admit that when I first heard about this event from a friend of mine I was a bit skeptical, but as I started doing some checking around I discovered that it’s no joking matter.  There actually is going to be a gigantic pillow fight in downtown Toronto at the end of this month and anyone that wants to participate is invited to do so!

The Scotland Yard Pub in Toronto – Over 25 Years of Drinking, Friends and all around Fun

The Scotland Yard Pub in Toronto – Over 25 Years of Drinking, Friends and all around Fun

One of the great things about Toronto is that it has a large number of neighbourhood pubs.  These pubs allow you to kick back, relax and have a good time.  Not a good time like a tourist, but a good time like a resident of the city, because the people in these pubs are often friendly enough that you’d fit right in within minutes of sitting down at the bar.
One example of such a pub is the Scotland Yard Pub.  This pub is located in the heart of the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood and has been around for over …read more

T is for Toronto

T is for Toronto

One of the most enjoyable aspects about writing for The Toronto Traveler has to be getting to be part of the great community of b5media Travel & Culture.  Every now and then we do a theme day where the whole channel gets to write posts around a common theme.  One of those days is coming up at the end of May and it’s going to be on the letter T.  To that end, I give you the following post, entitled T is for Toronto.
T is for The Toronto Traveler, the blog that I’ve been writing for since late last year.  …read more

Find the Best Gas Prices in Toronto with Toronto Gas Prices dot Com

One of the big beefs that people tend to have with traveling in and around Toronto is the gas prices that can be found in the city.  While Toronto is lucky in the sense that our gas prices are lower than in most other areas (and definitely lower than the national average), gas prices are still going up at a very predictable rate.
While this is definitely true over the long run, over the short run there are definitely differences within the city in the prices that can be found.  The Toronto Gas Prices website aims to exploit these …read more
