There are many different ways to get around the city in Toronto and surprisingly enough considering its size one way that you can traverse downtown Toronto is through something called the path. Now, I’ve been to many of the other cities in North America and while many of them have great public transportation, I have come across few that combine easy walking directions and high quality public transportation to allow people to get around in the way that Toronto does.
The PATH is 27 km long and it allows you the chance to walk from many of the different attractions in Toronto to many of the other ones. This increases not only the tourism output of the city, but it also works out very well economically as well.
Here are some facts regarding Toronto’s PATH system:
- Guinness lists the PATH as being the world’s largest underground shopping complex and it even rivals West Edmonton Mall in overall size
- There are 1200 shops in the PATH and over 5000 people working within those shops at any given time
- There are over 50 office buildings connected to the PATH
- If you were to start at the north and work your way south, the PATH would allow you to walk from the Metro Toronto Coach Terminal all the way to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s South Building
- Examples of tourist attractions that can be reached through the PATH system include the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Rogers Centre, the CN Tower, the Air Canada Centre and Roy Thomson Hall
