Welcome to The Toronto Traveler
Known as Hogtown to some, The Blue City to others and still Canada’s Heart to more, Toronto has become a city of cities. It is located within one of the more temperate areas of what is otherwise a very cold country and in addition to that it has a fastly growing greater urban area that numbers in excess of 5 million people. The city itself now has a population approaching 3 million people, putting it in the top five in terms of most populated cities on the continent of North America. It has also recently overtaken New York for the title of most multicultural city in the world; a title that many people living in Toronto will cherish. The parliament of Ontario is located in Toronto (the capital city of Ontario) and is harder to get into than most governments around the world because of the bilingual French and English requirement.
All in all, Toronto is an exciting and vibrant city where the possibilities are endless and endlessly increasing.
So, what does this mean for you, the person that is presumably reading this blog in order to learn more about the city? It means that on our journey together to explore Toronto, we are going to come across many different things. Many of those things will mirror things in other cities and therefore be familiar to you, while others will be completely new and (hopefully) exciting as well. Where this journey will lead I have no idea, but then if I did what would be the point of writing for it in the first place?
As far as the logistics for this blog go, I would like to start things off with a bit of an experiment. In that experiment, I would like to run two types of posts concurrently with each other. Firstly, I would like to post random things about the city that might include news, seasonal pieces and other random snippets that I think people traveling to the city and indeed people living in the city might find interesting. Secondly however, I want to do a series of posts that relate to each other through the subject matter that they discuss. Sort of the blog version of serials would be what I’m aiming for here and as I get to the end of one serial, I can start another. We’ll see if I can get those two types of blog posts to co-exist, because if I can keep that going I think ultimately the experience that you get from this website will be greatly enhanced.
With that said, I think I’ve come to the end of everything that I want to say about this blog right now and let’s hope that when it comes right down to it, you enjoy your stay and the things you read about in upcoming posts on The Toronto Traveler, a blogging member of the Travel and Culture part of the b5media network.
